Dallas Road

15 November 2009 No Comment

I am not going to lie, I have a bit of a morning routine. Wake up, make coffee, sit around in my housecoat and eat breakfast. Then I usually check SkimBC and SkimOnline. Next is Facebook. Shower. If the wind is blowing I usually sneak a peak at Big Wave Dave, web cam for beaches all over Vancouver Island.

Yesterday when I checked the web cams, every  spot was pumping. Not being able to skim (as I am out with a shoulder injury), but anxious to shoot some photography I send Brandon a text at 9:20 am saying “Island View is popping off!”. Couple hours went buy, few texts back and forth and it looked like we were not going to be able to get out to shoot.
I figured the session was a write off, so I headed downtown for some groceries. Next thing I know Brandon calls, tells me he is with Jeff from Zed Skimboards and is headed to my house to get me.

Enroute

Dallas Road

We headed down to one of the most consistent spots when there are strong south easterly winds. The spot is along Dallas Road, at the bottom of Cook Street. Recent storms had beached tons of driftwood, making connecting with waves very difficult and sketchy. In addition the winds were gusting between 25-30 knots. Brandon was a trooper and rode for over an hour and a half in the less than ideal conditions. Here is the end result.
